Introduction

My name is Heather Dutton. I am in the MAT program. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA in 2003 with a B.S. in Chemistry. I thought I wanted to go to pharmacy school and after a semester I decided I didn't want that as my profession. I moved back to Bristol, VA where I was born and raised to work. I decided I didn't want to waste my undergraduate degree so I decided that I wanted to teach...which I was a trainer at my old job and I very much enjoyed it. As soon as I started the MAT program I started subbing in Bristol Virginia Public Schools. I love being there and I am so excited to one day have my own classroom.

I am working on my last semester before student teaching. I was supposed to be student teaching now but my plans got changed for me over the summer. I had an sudden unexpected event that happened. I love my father. I was "a daddy's girl" and I am the baby of the family. It has been hard, but I know he would want me to continue on with school. His death happened so I had to cancel my praxis test... so now I am just doing a masters plus. I am working on my first license in chemistry and a second in math. I am taking this course because I love to read and I love technology. I think schools need to integrate it more into the classroom. I want to learn as much as possible and always be open to change.... as long as it’s for the better.

I have been married to my best friend for 4 years as of August. We have no human children, but we have 3 labs one of each color: yellow, black, and chocolate. They are great they love to be lazy or they can be very active. It’s nice to lay around and be lazy or go for a hike. It does become troublesome if we go to public sites because it’s hard to have all 3 on a leash. That's holding over 250lbs by fabric..... They are very friendly but they want to know about everything…. Which is makes them like me. I love to read and learn so it’s a good match.
